Do you currently partner with insurers or representatives of the insurance industry?
Yes

If yes, in what ways?
We work closely with Farm Bureau Insurance. Their offices are located in our neighborhood. They have provided financing for projects and printing for our newsletter. Farm Bureau also has assisted SEND by hosting meetings for the community and providing volunteers for various community events.

We also worked with UIPI and its member companies in the building of a neighborhood park. The land was transformed from a vacant lot that previously housed a rundown building to the park. In addition, UIPI and its member companies funded and provided volunteers for a house painting project that transformed an area neighborhood.

Do you educate homeowners about insurance? If so, how?
We do some education with people who are buying houses from us and that we're helping with home repairs. We discuss what insurance they need to have and assist them in obtaining coverage. We emphasize the importance of having insurance. The education is accomplished on a one-to-one basis.

Are any insurance industry companies or agencies represented on your board?
Farm Bureau Insurance

Recent accomplishments and major awards
The recent renovation of two vacant buildings into viable businesses that house primarily arts related entities: Murphy Arts Center and Wheeler Arts Community. We were awarded the 2000 Mayor's Neighborhood Award for the Murphy Arts Center.

SEND is in the process of renovating another building to serve as the first community court in the Midwest that will focus on low-level crimes. The court will be known as Indianapolis Community Court.

We have renovated 75 area homes.
