YING QUARTET PERFORMS AT MARYSVILLE MUTUAL

With the help of a grant from the “Chamber Music America’s Presenter Community Residency Program” to the Lied Center in Lawrence, Kansas, Marysville Mutual was privileged to host a sixty minute performance of the Ying Quartet in our offices on September 19, 2000. In addition to performing at Marysville Mutual, the Yings gave an outdoor performance for the entire Marysville community and also stopped at area schools to work with and perform for our children. 

Not only was this an event for our employees, we were pleased to invite a number of RSVP Volunteers (who stuff direct bill envelopes for us) and area nursing home residents. Also attending were employees of several neighboring businesses. A total of fifty-five people enjoyed the concert that was performed on the first floor of our home office building. After the concert, the audience and performers enjoyed refreshments and the chance to visit. 

The Ying Quartet consists of siblings, Janet, Phillip, Timothy, and David Ying. The Yings, a string quartet residing in Rochester, N.Y., are the Quartet in Residence at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. The Ying Quartet has performed in every major city of the United States as well as in England, Germany, Austria, France, Sweden, Canada, Australia, Japan and Taiwan. In recent seasons, the Ying’s activities have ranged from residencies with the St. Louis Symphony to appearances in Carnegie Hall and the White House. That puts us in pretty good company!

However, the Ying Quartet also strives to bring their brand of classical music to rural America. This desire is what led them to Marysville through the Lied Center grant. It was our good luck to have Marysville selected as the rural concert and teaching site. While the Yings also gave a performance at the Lied Center in Lawrence, Kansas, Marysville was the only other community in Kansas to be graced with their music. What a treat to hear them perform in person and be able to host such a once in a lifetime event in our offices!
