Illinois Insurance Association Finds Good Fit With UIPI

The shared goal of a positive insurance climate has led the Illinois Insurance Association to become a supporter of the Urban Insurance Partners Institute.

“We’re interested in becoming more involved in the urban affairs arena,” comments Janet Patrick, hot line director for the Illinois Insurance Association. “We thought the institute was a good fit with our organization.” The association represents companies that write 75 percent of the property and casualty insurance market in Illinois.

A national workshop organized by UIPI last November, Urban Insurance Advantage, influenced the Illinois Insurance Association’s decision to support the institute. “We were very impressed with the seminar, especially the regulatory sessions,” explains Patrick. “The workshop provided a good opportunity to learn about the focus of UIPI and where the organization is heading.”

The Illinois Insurance Association has been based in Springfield for the past five years, since moving from Chicago. The association provides legislative, membership and consumer outreach services.
Illinois residents are encouraged to call an association operated hot line, sponsored by the insurance industry, to receive answers on a variety of insurance questions. Educational brochures, company financial strength ratings, and complaint rankings are among the details disseminated through the Illinois-only hot line at (800) 444-3338.

A significant part of the Illinois Insurance Association’s focus is working with the Illinois legislature on issues important to member companies. Association membership services include educational seminars and legislative updates.

The association looks forward to keeping up on insurance issues that affect the urban market through the institute, notes Patrick. The Urban Insurance Partners Institute is a nonprofit organization funded by the insurance industry.
